Introductions to Radio, Lauren Laverne and Late Night Woman's Hour

Radio is a  transmission via broadcast over radio waves which listeners can tune into the frequency they want to listen too. Although, this is becoming a little less relevant with the introduction of Digital Radio and the Internet.

BBC Radio 4
BBC Radio 4 is a mixed speech service with a high offering of in-depth new, current affairs and drama. BBC Radio 4 broadcasts a Woman's Hour at 10am everyday (this has been running since 1940). It is a magazine style radio programme ("magazine programme is a mixture of items, topics, contributors and. formats or techniques. However, while it implies a mixture, this mixture is not. always necessarily a variety of topics.") They also broadcast a monthly Late Night Woman's Hour, hosted by Lauren Laverne at 11pm.

It is significant that the show is hosted at 11pm as it is past the Watershed, meaning that more controversial, adult topics can be discussed on the show. It also leads us to believe this monthly show is aimed at a younger target audience, compared to Woman's Hour, and perhaps suggests the woman have been working.
